Collections in Shopify are an essential part. It helps to organize or group products based on some similarity. It also makes it easy for customers to find what they want and enhance your business reputation.
Here are some examples of collections that you might create:
- Accessories based on Gender
- Item based on types like indoor, outdoor, or hybrid
- Items on sale
- Items in a certain size or color
- Seasonal products, such as holiday cards, decorations, summer dresses, and winter dresses.
To create the collection in Shopify you’ll need to upgrade your Shopify plan to a Basic Shopify plan or higher.
Types of collections in Shopify
- Manual collection
- Smart collection
Note: You can create a maximum of 5,000 Smart Collections, each with a name of up to 255 characters. Additionally, Smart Collections can include as many as 60 rules or conditions. Make sure you have permission to create the collections.
Manual collections
A manual collection is one where products are added manually, rather than automatically. Before updating a collection, ensure that your staff has not made any updates without notifying you. You can check the last modification time at the top of the page.
Steps for creating a Manual Collections.
Step 1: First, Log in to your store. Open on the Products>Collection and click on the Create collection.
Step 2: Then, fill in the details of your collection, ensuring that you select the collection type as ‘manual.’ Provide a title for your collection and choose products by clicking the ‘Browse‘ button.
Step 3: The search engine listing is optional to edit; however, you can modify the URL, add meta descriptions, and change the page title as needed.
Step 4: Lastly, click on the save button.
Smart collections
A smart collection uses conditions to assign the matching products automatically. you can add up to 60 conditions in a single collection and also determine whether any one condition needs to match or all the conditions to match for selecting the product.
Step for creating a Smart collection
Step 1: First, Log in to your store. Then go the Products>Collections, and click on the Create collection.
Step 2: Next, choose “Smart” as the collection type and fill in all required details, such as the Title, Description, image, and template. Then, add the conditions based on your requirements.
