Metafields in BigCommerce are used to provide additional information about the Products, Variants, Categories, Brands, Carts, Customers, Orders, Locations, and Channels. It is pieces of information constructed in key-value pairs.
BigCommerce doesn’t have the feature for adding the metafiles via the admin panel but there are some ways of adding them.
Adding Via API is a complex process so we prefer to use the Apps to add the metafields in BigCommerce. There are a few apps that provide the features of adding metafields like Metafields Editor by Groove Commerce which is free. It provides an easy interface. you can add metafields in several parts with this app:
- Products
- Variants
- Categories
- Brands
- Orders
- Channels
If you want to add in another part like Location, Customers, and Cart. You’ll need to use API or paid apps for that.

Setup Metafields with Metafields Editor
Step 1: First, log in to your store. Then, go to the Metafields Editor and click on the Get This App.
Step 2: Next, Choose the option according to your need and log in with your store account. Make sure you are using an owner account or high-risk permission enabled on your account.
Step 3: Then, you’ll be redirected to your admin panel and get an install option. Click on that button.
Step 4: Click on the confirm button.
Step 5: As a result, the app is successfully installed and you’ll get an interface where you can choose in which part you want to add metafields. Click on the View option and select the desired product, brand, order, channel, or category in which you wanna add.
Step 6: In our case. we are adding in products. Choose the product in which you wanna add.
Step 7: After, click on the create metafield option.
Step 8: Add the values in the fields according to your needs. If you are confused about any field, you can find the field information on the right side.
Step 9: Finally, click on the Save button.
