301 Redirect is an efficient as well as SEO-friendly choice for permanently redirecting the old URL to a new one. Like, if there is a page that used to be at http://store.com/old-page and is now that page is at http://store.com/new-page, It needs to be sure that anyone who is going to the old page should be redirected to the new page.

It optimizes the SEO of search engines. And can find that your page is still existing, but has a new location. Additionally, they improve the customer experience. as you don’t want to see your customers see an error page when they click on an outdated link.

Requirements for adding 301 Redirect

  • Your store should be on a paid plan.
  • The user should be the owner or must have permission enabled in your user account for 301 Redirects.

Adding 301 Redirect

Step 1: First, log in to your store and go to Settings › 301 Redirect.

Step 2: If you have a single-storefront store, click Create Redirect. Else If you have multiple storefronts, select the storefront you want to manage from the drop-down menu, then click Create Redirect. You can also access it by clicking on Settings and the 301 Redirects of the Domain section and then by clicking on the Create Redirect.

Fields Info

  1. Domain (read-only): It shows the domain of the storefront where the redirect will be created.
  2. Old URL: This field is for adding the old URL which you want to redirect from. For example, /old-url.
  3. Redirect Type:
    • Manual Link (URL): It specifies the new URL to which the old URL should link, for example, /new-URL. If the new URL changes, you’ll need to manually update this redirect.
    • Dynamic Link (Page or Object): It specifies a product, brand, category, or page for the old URL to link, searchable by name or SKU. The redirect will continue to work even if the URL of the linked object or page changes.

Step 3: After, editing click on the save or create option which one you get.

Note: If you are trying to redirect from a reserved URL then, you will be prompted to confirm that you are aware of the potential risks involved about that. Check the box and click Create redirect to proceed, or Cancel the redirect.
